Solving Brother TN720/TN750 Cartridge Problems

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at preset temperatures that match exactly each individual toner formulation. Each individual part is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect hardware performance, print quality, and machine reliability. Brother’s limited warranty does not cover problems caused using third-party drums or ink and toner cartridges.

Have you already replaced the toner cartridge with a genuine new Brother cartridge?

You might encounter certain problems when replacing your printer’s toner with a new one. After you insert a new toner in your printer, most encountered problems will be annoying alerts such as:

  • Toner Low.
  • Replace Toner.
  • Toner Ended.

However, this usually has nothing to do with the toner itself and you do not need to buy a new one to replace the one you have. You only need to reset your toners using a few simple steps. Follow the steps below to resolve these problems.

  1. Open the front toner compartment door.
  2. The printer screen should read, “Front cover is open.
  3. Press the “Clear” button on the printer’s front panel.
  4. The printer will say, “Replace drum.”
  5. Do not press 1, but instead type in “* 00” on the keypad.
  6. The screen will indicate “Accepted.” Close the door.

For Brother HL series printers:

  1. Open the front door.
  2. Turn off the printer.
  3. While holding down the GO button, turn the printer back on.
  4. When all four LEDs light up, release the GO button. All LEDs will turn off.
  5. Press the GO button twice. The 3 LEDs will light up solid.
  6. Press the GO button 5 times.
  7. The paper light will start blinking.
  8. At this point, the toner end-of-life condition has been reset.

Here are some tips: Timing is of the essence here, therefore do not pause between the button presses. You must also be mindful of the fact that different printers and different toners might need different steps to reset. The above method is suitable for Brother series DCP/MFC/HL printers which should work with toners TN-720, TN-750, and TN-780.

NOTES:

If a toner cartridge from another machine has been installed (even if the cartridge isn’t empty), the message “Replace Toner” or “Toner Low” will still appear on display. To clear the message, the new genuine Brother toner must be installed.
