How to reset a Brother toner cartridge?

The cost of toner associated with frequent printing and copying of documents or photos for your small business is quickly accumulating. Almost all printers, including the Brother brand, warn you when ink or toner levels are low. This alert usually occurs too early, while there is still a lot of toner in the cartridge. According to Brother, you need to replace the toner cartridge to get rid of this alert message. Resetting a used Brother toner cartridge, on the other hand, gives it the appearance of a new cartridge for your printer, which allows you to get a little more out of your toner without your device harassing you for replace.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button to turn on the Brother printer. Turn off the printer, and then turn on the printer.

Step 2

Lift the printer cover and press the "Secure Print" and "Cancel" buttons at the same time. The Secure Print and Cancel buttons are usually located next to each other between the OK and Go buttons.

Step 3

Press the "+" button to display the list of toner colors installed in the printer. You will usually find the "+" button at the top of the directional pad on the right side of the LCD screen.

Step 4

Scroll down the list and highlight the color you want to reset.

Step 5

Press "OK" to reset the color. Repeat the process to reset other colors.

How to clear the "Replace Toner" message with Brother toner cartridges?

Does this apply to your machine?

The message "Replace Toner" is intended to alert you that the toner cartridge has reached the end of its intended life. It is recommended to replace the toner cartridge.

To clear the "Replace Toner" message, install a new Brother TN420 or TN450 Toner Cartridge. When replacing the toner cartridge, you MUST install a new and unused original Brother toner cartridge to reset the "Replace Toner" status. DO NOT install a used cartridge that has already been installed in another machine or a TN start-up cartridge supplied with the machine.

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only original drum units and / or Brother toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to operate at pre-set temperatures that exactly match each of their toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work together to ensure quality and reliability. Use of non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and reliability of the machine. The Brother Limited Warranty does not apply to problems caused by the use of third-party drums, cartridges, or toner cartridges.
