COMPATIBLE, REUSED AND RECHARGED CARTRIDGES: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Compatible, remanufactured and refilled ink and toner cartridges: Here's a handy little guide that explains their differences.

Buying ink cartridges and toner should be a simple matter. The thing is, typing printer ink in Google and you start having all these different types that appear, compatible? Renovated ? Filled?

Saving money becomes an important concern for many people, making these alternatives a really useful solution.

But many people think that they should only use branded ink and toner, believing that other types might damage their printer in one way or another, or produce poor quality prints.

This is rarely the case, the alternative ink and toner cartridges are perfectly capable of working as well, if not better than their original siblings.

And with increasingly tight budgets, it's not surprising that these products, which can offer the same quality or higher quality, are becoming increasingly popular.

Compatible cartridges

Compatible cartridges are cartridges that, in general, have not been manufactured by the so-called original equipment manufacturer. So those made directly by Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Brother, etc.

Usually, compatible cartridges are produced by a third party company. Apart from that, there are very few perceptible differences, they are designed to work in your printer in exactly the same way as the branded cartridges.

They are also very versatile because they are designed to work with different types of printers, rather than just one.

Buying compatible cartridges especially online, also tends to be cheaper than buying those from the OEM.

Remanufactured Cartridges (Recycled)

Compatible and remanufactured cartridges are often confused and considered to be the same thing.

This is not the case, there are important differences. While a compatible cartridge is a brand new product, a remanufactured cartridge takes parts of an original cartridge, namely the shell and the print head, and in fact rebuilds it by filling it, repairing it and repackaging it.

A good way to think about it is a recycled cartridge. Remanufactured cartridges are usually a cheap option and it's also a way to do your part for the environment.

Refilled cartridges

A refilled cartridge is an ink cartridge that can be recharged using a domestic refill kit. As long as they are well maintained, they can be used many times.

Home recharge kits are pretty cheap to buy after the initial purchase, the only expense you will face is to buy ink for refilling, which is fairly inexpensive.

However, it is true that the quality of a refilled cartridge will begin to diminish over time, even if you work hard to keep it in excellent condition.

The type of cartridge you choose will depend on your printing needs. However, it is important to note that this is certainly not the case that remanufactured, compatible and refilled cartridges are substandard alternatives to original products.
