UNIVERSAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE RESETTING OF BROTHER DRUM UNITS


The Brother machine has separate consumables for the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Check that you are replacing only the drum unit and not the toner cartridge. If you want to know their difference, see "What is the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit?"

Replace the drum by following the steps below:

Replacing the drum unit

1- Make sure the machine is turned on.

2- Open the front cover.

3- Remove the toner cartridge and the drum unit from the machine.

4- Push the green lock lever down and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.

5- Unpack the new drum.

6- Put the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until you hear it lock into place.

7- Make sure that you correctly put the toner cartridge in place, otherwise it may separate from the drum unit.

8- Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and from right to left several times.

9- Make sure to bring the tab back to the Home position. The arrow on the tab should be aligned with the arrow on the drum unit. If this is not the case, the printed pages may have a vertical band.

10- Put the toner cartridge and the drum unit back into the machine.

11- Close the front cover of the machine.

 

Reset the drum counter

When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you must reset the drum counter by following these steps:

1- Open the front cover.

2- Hold down the OK key for 2 seconds.

3- Press the up arrow key or 1 to reset the battery counter.

I always receive the error message "Replace Drum", or "Drum End Soon" after replacing the drum unit with a new one.

The following error messages continue to appear if the drum counter has not been reset when you replace the drum unit with a new one.

To clear these error messages, you must reset the detoner counter as shown below.

 Follow the steps below to reset the toner counter.

Note: The illustrations below are from a representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.

Reset the drum counter only when you replace the drum unit. If you reset the drum counter during the life of the drum unit being used, the remaining drum life is not displayed correctly.

Use of non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and reliability of the machine. The Brother Limited Warranty does not apply to problems caused by the use of unauthorized third-party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.
