How to Set Up a Brother Printer on a Wireless Network


Before configuring the wireless settings:

  • Check that you have already configured your router and your computer. If not, configure your network first.
  • You must know the wireless network settings of your WLAN access point/router. Check and record the network name. (SSID: Service Set ID, ESSID: Extended Service Set ID.)

 

Configure the wireless settings.

Follow the steps below.

Note: The screens may differ depending on the operating system used and on your Brother machine.

  • Place the MFC J480W Brother machine as close as possible to the network access point/router with minimum obstructions.
  • Make sure that your MFC J480W Brother is turned on.
  • Make sure that your computer is turned on and that you are logged in with administrator rights.
  • Proceed with one of the following operations:

 

Insert the supplied CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.

If you do not have the CD-ROM, go to the downloads section of this website and download the Full Driver and Software package. First, follow the installation instructions on the download page. Once the installation screen appears, follow the next steps for Windows® Users above.

  • Download the Full Driver and Software package from the downloads section.
  • The installation screen will appear automatically. Choose your language and click Next.
  • When the User Account Control screen appears, click Allow or Yes.
  • When the License Agreement window appears, carefully read the license agreements.
  • Check the box “I agree to these license agreements” if you agree and click Next.
  • Choose Wireless network connection (Wi-Fi), and then click Next.

—Go to the downloads section of this website and download the Full Driver and Software package.

—Double-click the Brother icon on your desktop.

—Double-click the start icon, here OSX.

—Choose Wireless Network Connection and click Next.

—When the wireless device’s configuration screen appears, choose Configure Without a USB Cable (recommended), and click Next.

—The name of your network (SSID, ESSID) is displayed. Choose Yes and click Next.

—Detecting existing wireless network settings on your computer

—When the wireless device’s configuration screen appears, follow the instructions on the screen to configure your Brother machine on a wireless network, then go to the next step.

—When the screen Enable Without a Cable is displayed, you must now activate wireless networking on the device using the control panel. Follow the instructions on the screen to activate wireless networking on the device, using its control panel.

Return to your PC. Select Connected and click Next.

—Check the resulting connection of the wireless setup

—Choose the MFC J480W Brother machine that you want to set up.

—Then, click Next and follow the instructions on the screen to install the driver for the network connection. Even if you have previously printed with a USB connection, you must install the driver for the network connection.

—Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
