A few tips to reduce printer problems

March 17, 2023

When a printer stops working, an entire department often suffers and loses efficiency. Because prevention is always better than cure, here are a few practical tips to help keep your equipment in excellent working condition.

1. Turn off your device at the end of the day
Get into the habit of turning off your printer when you leave the office at night. This protects it from power surges that could damage it during periods of inactivity, while also extending its lifespan.
2. Choose high-quality paper
Opt for quality paper that does not generate excess dust. Inexpensive paper often releases fine particles that build up inside the printer. These particles considerably reduce the grip of the feed rollers, causing more frequent paper jams and requiring more frequent maintenance.
3. Avoid compressed air for toner leaks
Never use compressed air to clean up a toner leak. Doing so blows the fine powder directly into the core of the printer components, which can cause major damage. Instead, use a suitable vacuum cleaner with care.
4. Mind the location of your device
Avoid placing your printer or copier near a window or a direct heat source. Dry ambient air can alter the lifespan of certain components, leading to breakdowns that require part replacements and repairs.
